The world’s biggest type of bee!

You’ve all quite possibly encountered bees or wasps. They aren’t really bad, some are even cool, funny and have movies: These bees are quite harmless, the worst thing that can happen if they sting you is that you’ll be sore for a couple days, even if you’re allergic, the risk isn’t quite high. However, there are bigger bees. The largest type of bee is the Asian Hornet Bee.

They can grow to approximately 2” or 50.8mm. Their wingspan is approximately 3” or 76mm. That’s right. The size of your THUMB. They can be located in some Asian countries, and are considered deadly. Their weapon is the typical stinger.  It’s one fourth of an inch, or 6mm. It injects a specially powerful venom. The sensation is described as a hot nail being driven in to your body. It can dissolve skin tissue.  Their venom is in fact so powerful that, in sufficient doses, it can kill someone. Even if they’re not allergic. They kill around 20 to 40 Japanese people on a yearly basis.

You can watch video of one of these bad boys fighting with a mantis here.
And here is a video of 30 of these hornets taking on 30,000 honey bees.

I hope you enjoy this little bit of information. You may find more information in the Wikipedia article, which has a better summary and more information. It is located here.
