Make your computer faster

Typing MSCONFIG in Search/Run

Typing MSCONFIG in Search/Run

Sick of your computer loading things to slowly? Annoyed at tedious boot times? Use this method to stop those unwanted programs from auto-loading and slowing down your computer. Firstly, this guide is optimized for Windows operation systems. Sorry, but this guide is not for you Linux/Mac users.

1) So to start off you need to get to the run command. For XP users you can click on the Start Menu then click on the Run button. For Vista and 7 users you can use the search box at the bottom of the Start Menu.

2)Type msconfig into the run/search box.

3)For XP users click OK. For Vista/7 users, click the msconfig icon under the Programs section (see above).

4) Once inside System Configuration head over to the Startup tab.

5) Look down the list and untick anything you think you don’t need. If there is something you are unsure about what it does either don’t untick it or Google the application first. Unticking critical programs can be hazardous. It is safe to untick most things, but be careful not to untick things such as your virus protection.

6) Once you are done you can click OK and restart your computer. Hopefully you will notice some speed improvements.

I elaborated more on this guide HERE for those people wanting to know which programs NOT to untick

I would say to tell people to use services.msc isntead, since you can hide critical services with that, as opposed to msconfig.
